Thanks for the tip. Below is the output from the debug UART interface. I'm not sure why, but it seems like once the kernel takes over the interface it switches baud rate or something? I don't know what to make of that jumbled output. (/boot/firmware/cmdline.txt of course has "console=serial0,115200")From the hardware perspective "sudo shutdown now" and "sudo reboot" are identical. Both trigger a watchdog reset, the former sets the reboot parameter to 63.
The early reboot handler doesn't depend on the boot device, it's the minimal code loaded from SPI flash.
Best guess is that that the reset from the kernel hasn't happened yet. To confirm that you'd need to connect / probe the dedicated boot UART pins to observe the reboot/halt.
When running "sudo shutdown now" via ssh, nothing is printed immediately, then 30-70 seconds later we see the last few messages related to powering off.
It more or less seems like the issue is potentially in the OS-side, but where do we go from here to figure this out?
