Guys,
I have no idea what OS version underpins my PiAware thing. Don't think it an issue to have the latest bleeding edge OS release. I've had it several years, started it from a downloaded image and its set to sort itself out on its own or when prompted by me via the Flightaware stats web site.

To be of any value FlightAware/PiAware needs to run 24/7/366 feeding transponder data into the hub. Mine ith
i dip into it every now and then using my tablet in the garden to work out where the con-trails were going. Well that was before Amazon stopped updating my tablet's OS and Google declared my version of Chrome frozen for my OS version. The last straw being the FlightAware web site caught up on the HTTPS security version which was beyond my tablet's version of Chrome. Currently I need a new tablet before I need any more Pi's with new OS releases. Progress comes with too much baggage and cost.

Costs wise the Pi is the cheapest bit, certainly if you go for their SDR dongle followed by a decent antenna so easy to built, get going then leave it to do its thing.
