I’ve been struggling with a particular programming problem, ChatGPT has come up trumps for me, providing code samples that I’ve adapted into my work. It’s also provided decent suggestions for programming patterns. It does it very politely without snark or condescension or “why do you want to do that, stupid”, to its great credit.
The art of using it is asking the right question and knowing enough to judge the quality of the response.
You are right about open source, if you go beyond the popular standard stuff it is very off putting for beginners. Often when we are tinkering we are also learning so by all means go with a suggestion from ChatGPT or anywhere, give it a try and if it doesn’t suit your needs, try something else. You will likely learn far more with hands on practice.
