Assuming Raspberry Pi OS as stated, depending on its install date and whether it has been updated you could be running any one of three desktop environments:
They're all configured differently so it's possible what you're running doesn't match the "fix" you have applied. Or the other way around.
You can switch between deskotp environments via sudo raspi-config under advanced options. Might be worth investigation.
- X11 with lxde
- Wayland with Wayfire
- Wayland with labwc
