just FYI.
the first thing i tell people to try when they say "it doesn't boot" is:
- remove the SD card
- power up
- should get the diagnostic display (shown below)
- if you don't
a) check your cabling (video adapters may not pass data from the display back to the PI... resulting in no output to display)
b) update the bootloader.
usually, it's the HDMI cable, as you have found.
