It's not an error or warning, just information. /sbin/ifconfig prints it if it's present in the data structure given to it by the kernel. For reasons I don't particularly feel like investigating, either the kernel or specific drivers don't populate that member of the structure in all cases where it's available. It's printed by line 945 of net-tools/lib/interface.c (Debian version 2.10-0.1), which has been there in one form or another for at least 24 years.
Some update (probably the new kernel released this month, I guess, if it has just appeared) caused that member of the structure to start getting populated on your system.
