I've set my favourites entry to search.php?search_id=unreadposts and just hit the main bar - I find that easier than the hamburger menu....I think I am favouring "Unread Posts" because "Active Topics" shows threads I have read and am not interested in further. And it seems to me to be the same as "New Posts" originally was for those who auto-login.
The hard part will be breaking the habit and muscle memory of a lifetime...
