Beginners • Will Pi work with any touch screen monitor - especially HDMI type?

I want to eliminate the need for a mouse or track pad and instead use a large touch sensitive monitor. The question I have, can I buy any HDMI monitor with touch capability and have it work? Or are only certain monitors which have specially designed interface features able to work like this on the Raspberry Pi. I am using a Pi 5 with latest Raspberry OS.
